Front disc brakes

Help! Friday night my brakes came on while driving up the M1. Had to keep going to get off the motorway, managed to pull in just off the junction, discs were glowing!!Had to get recovered. What might have caused this to happen?

Piston/s seize in the caliper if it was a single wheel or master cylinder seized if it was all four brakes stuck that's if you touched the brake pedal first, but all of them to come on automaticly I don't know.

A bit more info would help.

Disco TD5 series 2 Y reg. Just the front 2 discs

Again piston/s seize in the caliper hard to tell without looking.

this can also happen with abs,tc and hd fault ie sensor or modulator but check calipers first
