Ok I just replaced front pads, disks and pad retaining pins. Now when I drive slowly all I can hear is the pads rattling about ?? IS there supposed to be anti rattle clips similar to the rear calipers ??

Have Exactley The Same Thing On Mine.
As Long As The Springs Are Fitted To The Pins I Dont Think There Is A Lot To Worry About.
Probably Dut To The Type Of Pads ,mine Are Mintex From Paddocks.
Wind The Window Up And Turn Up The Stereo -that Should Cure It!!

I have the same problem:mad: I think it must be after market pads or worn calipers, trying to live with it at the mo but it drives yeh mad dun it?

I have the same on mine whenever i change the pads, put copperslip on the cotact edges that slide into the caliper this helps, but once the pads are bedded into the discs they settle down (just a bit of pad knockback), i just get mine quiete and then go and do some greenlaning and the travelling through muddy puddles starts them rattling again!!!

Going to try fitting spring clips same as the rears, the pads I used are mintex. Calipers have been cleaned and painted,\obviously too clean hence the rattle!!! Its driving me mad....:p

I thought about putting stronger springs on the retaining pins! When mine first started doing it was just after a disc & pad change and had just gone down to Spain-Shat me sen thought mi kin CV's were goosed!

Failing that ploughing through a foot of mud will probably quite em down:D

just found the problem, no springs between the pins and pads! Who ever had my disco before hadn't replaced these so when i came round to doing these i've only fitted new pads,pins,clips..

springs won't make a difference as it is the slidy bit that is undersize through wear on the caliper. last set i built up with mig weld along the edges that cured them from rattling!!!!

Both my 300Tdi Discos have done this. The last one started as you say after new pads being fitted. My local specialist told me it's caliper wear and he made up some shims which cured the problem.

They are anti-squeal shims for the rear.........
Just bought my 3rd 300Tdi and guess what, the front pads rattle. They look like new so I fitted new pins and springs but it made no difference.
On my last 300 I bought Delphi pads from DLS Land Rover on ebay. These didn't rattle, so maybe it's certain after market pads that are the problem....

I put stronger (but only mildly) springs where the pins are and that has sorted it for the last 2 years now!
