Front a frame for towing a td5 disco

the AA used to have a system that worked on a push system like trailer brakes but operated the vehicle brakes via thing inside that pushed the brake pedal

Not very succesful but made towing heavier vehicles a bit safer for them.

But the aa are a RECOVERY service lol
 
Its different rules for steam you can tow them all i want to know if you can fit a frame mounting eyes on the front without destorying the front plastic bumper

You could fit a steering gaurd with recovery points and then use the recovery points to attach the A frame to.

Out of curiosity, what's the exclusion that steam uses to get around the C and U and trailer braking regs?:confused:

maybee one of 2 main factors

1 a steam traction engine usualy weighs in at around 12 tonnes

2 the traction engine will only ever do about 25 mph flat out

the brakes on a traction engine are that massive and over engineered i dont think another 2 tonnes train weight is going to make much difference to one of those monsters ;););)
 
I have had a couple of mates in the past who have the large motor homes. One guy used a trailer to ferry around a smart car and another used an a frame to tow his fiesta. The a frame was legal as he had a cable going from the tow ball connection to the brake pedal. So instead of operating a trailer braking system it simply pulled the brake pedal.

I would agree with above and state that using a steering guard to provide necessary mounts would be a preferred way to mount an a frame and protect the vehicle from damage.

It is legal if the towed vehicle is braked, that is how the camper crews get on with it, alot of them also utilise the towed vehicles electrics for the lights e.t.c.

What you will have to watch is the weight an length, alot of big trailers and vehicles need to have to have a taco fitted nowadays in order to adear to current laws. This applies to non standard vehicles too, I know this as if I use a braked trailer behind my recovery truck I need a taco and that is classed in the same category as cranes I belive (something to do with the fact it lifts).

I int gonna post all the legalese Again!! This topic has been covered too many times. A motor vehicle is not a trailer. and towing one behind another vehicle is only legal if it is been recovered to a place of safety.

They aren't legal because they aren't reversible for a start. The brakes on a motor vehicle do not match the requirements for trailerbrakes.

How would you reverse this combination given that the brakes will engage as soon as you start to reverse.

The only car you can tow behind another vehicle is the Axiom. As it weighs less than 750kg.
