hi everyone. wifeys freelander wont start. a few days ago she tried starting it and it made a clicking noise but then started now it wont start at all it just makes a lot of clicking noises. i have tried wd40 and tapping starter at least i think its the starter(is it down the gap by the dipstick?) help me please as you can see i avnt got a clue.
cheers

eyupp before startin to strip starter motors off etc I sould try borrowing a battery off sumwun elses that ya know is workin. Even though yuc charged it up if sum o the plates ave collapsed inside the battery won't deliver the punch to turn the engine. Also check yer earths, and connections to starter

which one - by the ospital?

Oh was there more than one? - i used to live in Reading and drove past what looked like the tallest ugliest building there for miles on me way do to the sea side - been ages since i was there, quoted to rewire a IBM building there about 10 years ago - suppose it's all trendy flats and wino bars

ish .... back in them days i went round designing overly expensive networks (including the infrastruture) - IBM was a client then - well they woz untill i told em that token ring was dead.

My friends VP of financial sector Sales for HP he's in the middle of negotiating a deal to supply £7million worth of Liquidcooled Racks. for a big new data centre down south. Have seen the specs for the watersupply requirements I wouldn't like to pay the waterbill for em I'll tell ta that much. And theres nearly 10,000 miles of cabling going in as well.

Biggest job i ever took on was JP Morgan on the embankment - installed well over 50KM of mixed Type 1/Single and Multi mode fibre - then 2 years later they paid us to rip it all out and install cat 6 everywhere - ah them was the days - 6 foot deep raised flooring and hurricaine force winds to cool it all down.

The fault is without doubt your starter motor, take it out (about 20 mins) then take it to be re-conditioned, average cost is about £40.

Re-fit and away you go, beware taking it to an untrusted mechanic i was quoted £500+ for a new starter and fitting earlier this year, cost £38 with a 12 month warranty and i did it myself.

The bushes in the motor have failed (common problem) lots of Freelanders do frequent short journeys (Women drivers) and as a result the starter is subjected to more than average use, plus its a Freelander so expect problems.

My F***lander does this every few weeks or so. Turn the key and it clicks like having an iffy earth connection on the battery. It always starts though, been doing it for a year or so. just when I get fed up with it and decide to take it to my friendly mechanic it sorts itself out for a while.

thanks. everyone it was a failed battery. even though i charged it up and thought it was ok it obviously never had nuff kick. congrats to the ones who got it right.
