Hi.
I have just aquired my first 4 x 4 Freelander. Hopefully this will lead to a Discovery 3 next year. I currently do a bit of off roading in Oman every year both in the desert and the mountains.:D
My question is that the freelander currently has:
Rear - Dueller Bridgestone HT 684 96S and these need replacing
Front - Kumho Road Venture AT 195 R15 100S and these have plenty of wear left.

I don't plan on doing any serious (or not so serious for that matter) off roading so what is the best tyres to go for when mainly I'll be using the car on the road.

I've been looking at some Falken or Toyo 195 R15 80 96S TL both for around £50 each plus fitting. Are they suitable for my needs? The fronts are 100S will that make a difference? Should I go for exactly the same as the front?
Any help on this is gratefully received.

In my honest opinion, tyres on a freelander should all be the same and the ones with more wear should always be on the front otherwise you risk VCU/IRD/Differential problems. If you're replacing two at a time, new should go to back, old to the front. Never the other way round.

Unless you're going over 100mph, 100S tyres should be fine for your needs.

Thanks for the quick response. So if I can get a couple of Kumho's (same as fronts) you recommend them and have them put on the rear (where they're needed)? Not sure it'll go faster than 100!!:D
Regards

No problem.

I'm not sure what the Khumos are like as a tyre so i can't recommend them as such (I have General Grabber AT2's) but yes, i recommend that application with new on rear, and then your current Khumos on the front if you were to buy two new Khumos.
