Hi all, new to this group, but I need help with my 2002 freelander. When I go to my landrover I unlock it get in and turn the ignition on and let the glowplugs go out etc, I then turn the key to start and nothing happens at all, I would then turn the key off and keep trying then eventually it will start. It has done this several times and I need it for work. Does anyone have any knowledge on this problem and if so I would be grateful for and help. Many thanks in advance

The ignition switch can play up. Also it's not uncommon for the starter solenoid contacts to burn out. Is there a click under the bonnet, each time you turn the key?

I believe that there is a clicking noise yes but that's coming from family stood near the car so taking their word for it, I have ordered a repair kit for the starter so when that comes I'll have a crack at it. Is it hard to do? Many thanks

Not a difficult job. It's best to remove the starter, then the fitting of the kit at straightforward. Make sure you remove the battery ground terminal before starting.
