Hi all,
Come here to hopefully find some help! I own a freelander 2, 08 plate, diesel 2.2, this week with the cold he won't start at all without a jump. He's automatic so I hold the start button to warm him a little, dash lights on, but when I press the button he clicks then nothing. Dash lights off, and a clicking in the glove box.
I've thought new battery, alternator, filters? Any ideas?

But he's driving me insane! I've owned him since September 2017 in that time his rear wiper has stopped working because of a fuse and wiring fault, his front light bulbs have been replaced 3 times because they keep dying, he's had a new intercooler. Not a lot I grant you but enough in 3 months!
As a general question have I made a mistake buying one?

Thanks a lot :) x

Get the biggest battery you can fit in. This cold weather kills older batteries. You can use a volt meter to check if the alternator is charging but make sure the drive belt is adjusted properly. 3 headlight bulbs or three sets of headlight bulbs? You have to be careful handling them, if you touch the glass part with bare fingers, it can reduce the life of them significantly.

Also get your self an added earth strap to the starter motor bolt, if you only have the short earth from the battery to the inner wing, agree battery is most likely past it's best.

Blowing bulbs is a sign that the battery is dead. The FL2 uses a smart charging system. If the battery isn't absorbing the power from the alternator, the voltage rises to very high levels, often 15.5 volts plus. This makes short work of bulbs, particularly the headlight bulbs. ;)
Nice one Nodge, I learn something new every day on this site. I've a mate who's Peugeot was constantly blowing bulbs and nobody could tell him why.

Today we have a new battery, alternator seems to be fine, bulbs replaced on both fronts..... hopefully Freddie freelander will be less problematic from here on in :) x

HI Charlotte.
Did you ask for the earth to be checked out, as in my post above, if not really is worth checking.
