Bought Freelander 2.5 V6 51 reg 2002, last Tuesday, did 100 miles towing a caravan and what d'ya know the temperature went through the roof. Topped it up with water in the morning, checked it in the evening - no water. Had to top it up every day. The garage knew how far we were travelling and also knew we wouldn't be back off holiday for a week. Oh, there was hardly any oil in the truck either. How bad is that? and they said they wouldn't sell you crap, dont think anyone had ever checked anything under the bonnet before selling it to us.;)

Let me guess !

BLONDE???;) :D

thats even better, cos its between the finance company and the garage, contact the finance folk and tell them also mention that you might have to stop payments till they gert it fixed or get you a td4

so why is a TD4 better than mine; apart from the problem? Its actually in the garage supposibly being fixed; they have given us a merc as courtesy.

My freelander has a very nice front end add on, I believe it cost £1500.

Three letters Girly, HGF.....See Tinytdi and my Xedi's, both on 150k plus with original heads and engines, hands up anyone with a petrol with that much mileage....

dont get crushed in the rush.......:p

Oh. My Freelander went to the garage last Monday night, its still there. They said it should be ready Tuesday.

Spoke to finance company they told me to wait max two weeks for the car and if the problem is fixed basically there is nothing they can do because the garage are being fully cooperative.

Garage said its the water pump? Can this be a major problem, could it have effected anything else?

The temperature went to the max, although no steam came from the engine area and it didn't conk out. To be honest if you didn't notice/look at the temp gauge you wouldn't have been able to tell.

Overheating can cause some major problems as already posted further down the line.
The heads could have warped due to the heat, next thing your head gasket(s) fail and you will be adding water to the thing every day.

My advice would be to speak to the garage and tell them you want the car swapped, for it to have such a drastic failure after 100 miles the car by your own admittance hasnt had any pre-delivery checks they have obviously just sold it without even checking the oil  how can you know they will do a good repair to the car ?

Speak to them firmly but fair, swap for another vehicle if its a Freelander get the TD4 or your money back. If none of the above i would then sell it privately straight away.

It not nice but they have sold you a lemon.
