Sell the Free-loader cos it will turn crap given time or it will burn down like my ES.

Sell the Series cos the Defender has got alot more comfort and no leaf springs!!!

Sell the lot keep the series
65mpg, | ok so the smart wins this one
£40 a year road tax | NO Tax on the series
group 1 insurance | Fully comp historic Insurance + roadside recovery £135 per year (for me)

Park on a sixpence | Park any field or road side
Out accelerates a Ferrari | this I doubt without serious mods
Go anywhere off roading | Smart cars have difficulty with speed bumps

Towing | Smart cars couldn't pull the skin of a rice pudding.
Safety | Ok the smart does have crumple zones but why would I need one in the landy the other car will have them (I wouldn't like to be in Smart when it hit anything).
Cost of parts ?
And finally
A Series landy has more head turning ability then a Smart.

I'm 6'3 chaps smart car I'd look like a canned freak...clivees I hear you unlike most I love the freelancer, the series is the dogs dangles in the dirt, discos we love em, rangies too up market for me, and I know now't about defenders, except they are expensive...now look what you've done I'm all confused again....Help me...even the poll ain't decisive!!!

NICE ONE Clivees FAF :D

OK this thread appears to have altered from an attempt at a humerous parking solution to a Landy v Smart war. So…
Both have their good points, I commute 100 miles and work in central Glasgow, not a lot of fields to park in! I can fit the Smart in a wee free (not the religious group) space that no other car fits. I’m lucky enough to be able to have both a Landy and a commuter car, (and a couple of motorbikes - when it’s not bucketing.) I’ll be happy to take the Landy through when it snows.
Smarts are surprisingly resilient in crashes. You’re basically sitting in a roll cage with plastic coverings. Have a look at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=svKQkwBNQaU
for a laugh! Ok, - You’d be dead, but at least your next of kin would recognise you!
I’m 6’3, 17 stone and have more headroom/space inside the Smart than the last works Defender I drove.
An Italian tourist driving a Triumph Spitfire forgot we drive on the left in the UK, turned right across my path and took out my 4x4 2.8 Scorpio. Broke my neck as well, amongst other things. That’s why I got myself a Land Rover (92 200 series Disco) once his insurance coughed up.
And yes, I still think series Landy’s are superb bits of kit. I look forward to retirement in 2 years, when I’ll actually be able to devote the time to keeping one on the road. And off it.

You’re getting ripped off on the classic insurance. Mine was £95 pa for a ‘92 Disco. but I have separate breakdown covewr - 3 cars, 3 motorbikes, 4 family...
Diesel Smart Cdi’s are zero-rated tax, mine is petrol.
Acceleration – 3 cylinder turbo-charged Smart has surprising acceleration, especially with a remap. Mine isn’t remapped. Power to weight ratio obviously makes the difference - over the first 100m…
Smarts aren’t built for off-roading, and aren’t rated for towing either. That’s why God invented Land Rovers.
Parts? – Pay Merc dealer prices if you dare. Pay LR Dealer prices if you dare.
Or use knowledgable specialists/ owners clubs.
Head turning? Both sets of owners usually acknowledge their own. And that’s obviously a good thing. Looking forward to hearing from you…
