I have noticed a very worrying trend with vehicle breakers in the UK these days - and probably many other places.
They seem to be going down the totally 'eco' route. ie - they get a freeby in - strip off what they think may sell then crush it. It seems the days of it sitting on a pile are long gone.
The earlier Freelanders are getting a bit thin on the ground now - especially the superb L series.
There are certain parts that are worth grabbing that are unique and may become rare as hens teeth.
For example - the fuel pump. It is a one off afaik. none of the other L series use this pump - similar - but not this one.
Also, the WABCO ABS modulator and ECU.
On this part, the early K series used the same (basically on all vehicles with solid disc brakes) - so this is more readily available.
Once these parts are mostly gone they will be extortionately expensive for any that are left.
I am working through items that are unique to the L series Freelander and picking them up as I can.

Is the new style eco breaker (in, strip the main bits and crush) the same everywhere in the UK ? - or just in a few places ? - The guys I deal with tend to have the vehicle actually in the yard for around 2 days in total. They hardly take anything off as well before they crush it - and they are a specialist 4x4 breakers. They say that L series now are few and far between, also the early K's are almost like rocking horse droppings .
(excellent firm though if you need anything - and a real pleasure to deal with)
Search for Gentlemen of Salvage in Axminster. Ask for Rob or James and tell them Joe in Portugal said to call them.

This is pretty typical of most of the larger breakers these days.

Smaller outfits sell their parts on eBay, frequently labelled "rare" and priced accordingly. o_O

Is this one?
