I know that on the P38 Rangie the mileage is stored in two places, a chip in the speedo and also in the Becm which is the equivalent of the CCU fitted to Hippo's.
If either the Becm or the instrument pack/speedo is replaced on the P38 the odometer reading will automatically change to the highest stored value.
Not so sure about the Hippo but in general things have been made more difficult to "Recalibrate" the speedo unit due to the trend of storing values in the body electrics ECU.

Well I've changed clocks before after the MPH needle stopped working and I can tell you that the mileage stays with the instrument cluster. My original clocks were 46,000 and the replacements showed 52,000.

Both on my 2001 V6, and my 2004 Td4.

:behindsofa:

That's good to know.
I know of people that had a replacement Becm fitted on a P38 and when it was reprogrammed the stored mileage which was around 140k miles was not changed to the mileage recorded on the speedo which was around the 60k mark.
They drove the car, ignored a "Odometer error" on the display and drove it for a short while. Next thing was, the Odometer jumped up to the 140k figure

The eprom in the speedo had to be changed and the Becm mileage data reset to suit.
