Hi All out there, I am just about to purchase a freelander (older Model) and as I am an upholsterer to trade I occassionally carry tools and small items of furniture. Can any one tell me which model they think would be the best for me by way of load space.i.e. Station Wagon. hard back, three door, five door.? I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Dick.

Eyop Dick!

I use the 3 door Hback as a works van, fill it full o cable, drills, transformers tools, Brilliant van mate !And looks quite sexy anorl!:D
PS dont buy a petrol!! Well I wouldnt, but its up to you;)

Yep earthling i agree with Mondo ,I'm a rocket scientist, and always got nuclear reactors proton lasers, thermal image zap guns in my rear bit. . .:D

There is a Freelander Commercial which is basically a 3 door hard back with no rear seats, no rear windows and a mesh bulkhead.

There is no real difference in load space size between the 5-door station wagon or the 3-door hard/soft back.

I know a couple of people who have removed their rear seats and made a plywood floor for their non-commercial vehicles in order to maximise the capacity.

Cheers

I converted my commercial to 5 seater with windows, The only difference of the commercial is slightly wider space at the wheel arches, this is purely down to the plastic trim being bulkier in the standard trim. with the strengthened ply over the base mean it can take some abuse from the heavies.

In the commercial the mesh bulkhead was a pain. Ok when you have heavy loads for driver protection, but you could not load longer items in as you would when the seats are flat. I have the roof rack, twin bars and expedition rack. I cut the expedition rack to a flat rack for supporting lengthy bits of timber and yes the max weight on the rack is 65kg but I sure I have went well over that.

There are pros and cons with the commercial but the standard vehicle has more useful space for longer items I think.

What really annoyed me about LR was that they put rear speakers in the commercial. pointless as it was covered by solid plastic trim therefore you didnt really get any sound in the back anyway. so cut out holes for the sound to escape before doing the full conversion.
Mine is petrol and I rate them highly, less torque than the disease-el (L.o.L.)but they can shift
