Hi I have T reg freelander 1.8 16v k16 petrol, done about 58000 miles, recentley had the head skimmed and un uprated head gasket with steel dawds, new water pump and new radiator but now seams to pressurise and use a lot of water and if I do 15miles or more it will blow the water pipe off the rad, I have bypassed the gearbox as I was told that could be the problem but it still presists. Any advice would be apreciated as I have to fill it up with water every day at the moment. Oh and just incase you ask no there are no leaks anywhere.

Sounds more like the cookant cap isn't venting (0.9-1.1bar)

Put jubilees on the offending pipe, my IRD has been bypassed since gawd knows, never had a problem but then I have cut an air scoop in the undertray.

similar thing happened to me, ended up it was the litte ball valve which is part of the inlet manifold which allows air trapped in the head back to the coolant tank. if this is jammed it makes removing all the air after disrupting any of the cooling system near impossible.

hope this helpful,

regards,

Carl.

1.8 engines can be a pig to get the air out of the cooling system, I think you will find a small plastic hand screw on the top of the heater hose under the bonnet at back of engine. try venting the air out of it, and topping up the expansion bottle. It may take a few goes, do it with the engine running but NOT hot.
If you repeatedly squeeze the top rad hose when cold you will hear the sound of a ball bearing rattling about, thats a working jiggle valve - it (left side, facing engine) is known to get blocked, but is easy to check if you disconnect the hose from it to the expansion tank and check for water flow. The 1.8 has only two bleed valves, the rad has its own bleed pipe feeding back into the expansion bottle.
I suggest that you go for the PRT whilst you have it in bits. - You might also find this an interesting (if frightening) read.

i have just got my 1.8 k series back this morning from having head skimmed and uprated gasket put in endmine is pressurising within 30 mins any suggestions apart from get rid would be very helpful

take it back to whoever did it and let them sort it, or you could follow all the advice already given
