My 02, 1.8 freelander engine fans have a prob. they wont kick in, i have changed fan control unit which is small metal unit at top of fans, still same, there is 12v present incoming, plus 12v on the light guage cable which i assume is control wires as this switches correctly,

I put a straight feed to they fans and they work fine.
They dont come on with air con either??

Help please

there should be a temp sender somewhere on the rad or an hose. which switches on at a set temp, and sends a live supply to the fan or control unit. I know nothing about gaylander electrics so I don't know what the fan control unit does but it will need a temp activated signal to tell it to turn the fan on.

hi, thanks, i found that and replaced it, still same, there is a supply at fan control unit, and the signal wires have 12v also???????/

If it's that much of a concern why not get a separate temp. switch and hard wire the thing in place, that way you can control the fans or let the new switch do it automatically.

All you need is a double pole double throw switch, a relay, some wire and a thermo switch and if you go really mad you might wire in a warning light or even LED. Most expensive bit will be thermo switch, I put one on my Classic, think it was about £50.00, really neat, easy to install, no leaks and the temp is adjustable. All in, I would guess £75.00 for a set up you will know works no matter what. Probably cheaper than taking it to a garage to have it diagnosed and fixed unless it is something really daft like a blown fuse, stuck relay or loose wire.
