My father drives a 2006 TDI freelander. All of a sudden all three brake lights at the back have stopped working, and all bulbs are ok. Would anybody have a diagnosics?

No not the fuse either. We've tried all basics replaced bulbs, fuses but nothing works. I wonder is there some kind of relay or button connected to the brake pedal?

Check the feed to yellow header joint C 291, all brake lights come from there, located behind right hand trim panel, close to seat belt reel, above RH shock mounting.
see Electrical library on RAVE.

Have you checked the feed ? Multimeter at light socket positive and vehicle chassis for 12V. Multimeter at light socket earth and chassis for 0 ohms.
Check for poor earth, remember that the brake light switch may also be at fault.

were would I find that?

It should be on the right hand side of the brake pedal ( above and left of the throttle position potentiometer) the top one is the brake light switch, twist it and pull it out.
Above the bracket on the right of the pedal.

When you turn the ignition on the ABS, Traction Control & HDC warning lights should come on on the dashboard. They should go off a couple of seconds later - if they are staying on, then it is almost definitely the brake switch on the brake peddle. Even if they do go out, it is still theoretically possible the brake switch is faulty. It is probably the most common reason why the lights fail to illuminate - but as said, it could also be in the cabling.
