Freelander 2001 radio cassette

Hi all,I have the 01 Freelander, I have lost the code and the radio shows await code.


I think I can get the code online but I can't get the radio out. There is a hole on each side fit and I have tried pushing a couple of nails in to try and release it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need an Allen key not sure what size.. But in that little hole there is an Allen screw

What a welcome to this site you gave me.

I don't think that I need a lesson in etiquette from a pompous arse like you. I purchased my vehicle last Wednesday and have since been in hospital have only had one chance to drive it today.

I came on this site looking for help from a community I thought would impart some information that would help me as I haven't been behind the wheel of a Landrovers since I was in the Army and subsequently motorway Police Range Rovers.

I profoundly apologise for not introducing myself before I posted, but I think that you should think twice before you make such an idiot of yourself for all to see.

I found this site today and was pleased that there were so many owners willing to impart knowledge to other owners.

With a welcome from a senior member like that, I wonder how you ever got that status.

You could try being polite EBT.
This is the second new member you have jumped on recently.

When your car is having problems the last thing you think of is etiquette.

In answer to your question- Use an old school wire coat hanger or suitably sized wire, cut two pieces ~20cm long, bend into a U-shape to align with the holes either side, press firmly in and slide out the unit simultaneously.

On the LR unit will be a serial number and barcode, you may find a similar barcode in the handbook/service manual which will have four digits (code) on it. These will be a prefix to the serial number *1234* *123456789000000*

It is a French make/manufacturer - Philips

there are 2 3mm allen screws which have to be undone, one on each side, then the unit will slide out

(this is only true of original head units, if it's been changed then could be anything)

do not try removal tools or coat hangers, it doesn't work in that way.

Allen key in the holes,wind back and ease out the unit.then bin it.

I fitted a Pioneer DEH 6500dab in mine,USB port etc and you can match the colour to the car lighting.Works with the steering controls to.

You've just saved me a bunch of time - on the (long) to do list is replace the PoS head unit that the owner before me put in. Would want something that works with the steering controls... out of interest would it also control the 6CD Alpine changer and work with the Harmon Kardon amp that I've got in my V6 ES Premium? Thanks.

I don`t know about the amp,but the sound is great without one.
