I have recently started having problems starting my freelander 2 td4. 09 plate.
When I place the key fob into the dashboard I hear a clicking noise similar to the indicator lights flashing. The steering wheel lock doesn't release, the immobiliser doesn't deactivate so the engine won't start. The fault is intermittent and usually clears and starts after several attempts or if left for an hour before trying again.
I have replaced the battery in the fob (both of them) and the problem persists with both fobs so I assume it's not the fob causing the problem. I have had the car checked on a diagnostic machine but that only revealed steering lock not released on one occasion
Any help on what could be causing the problem would be appreciated
Thanks

Is the steering wheel physically locked or does the dash just say it is ?

Disconnect the battery cables ,and re-fit after 5 minutes and try to start, check fuses ,there is a fuse of steering column, but I don't know where it hides ...

You will probably have to have the fault codes read and re-set though ...

It could still be the Steering Lock module ... if I remember rightly they're the same as Volvo ... but don't quote me on it, just investigate it might be cheaper ...

Thanks for that reply.
The steering wheel is locked. It won't release.
Also noticed on a couple of occasions the trip counter reset to zero when the fault occurred.

Hi Ian
I'll look into it but my first thoughts would be that as the fault is intermittent it wouldn't be a fuse issue. If the fuse was blown no power would get through on any occasion so wouldn't work at all.
