Freelander 2 or Lexus RX350 ?

Hi all.
Just joined the club as I am thinking of buying my first 4x4.
I've read countless reviews and have narrowed it down to the Freelander 2 or the Lexus RX350.
My biggest concern after reading the reviews for the Freelander 2 is the amount of comments regarding unreliabilty. Is this a valid problem or is it more a case that only those people who want to complain bother to submit reviews ?
As an all round car, I'm leaning towards the Freelander 2, but the reliability issues could persuade me otherwise.
Any constructive comments would be welcome.

Freelander 2 every time - brilliant bit of kit

Don't know about the Lexus, never driven one, but I love my Freelander 2, never had any reliability problems with it

Are those the only choices?

when you beat on a 4x4 you are going to pay sooner or later. wash the under carriage after use. thats what we do down on the farm once a week. and under the bonnet. keep air and fuel filters clean and change more often. air very important after dusty conditions
