Hi guys, just purchased a Freelander 2 i6 hse and absolutely love it.

the problem I’m having is once they let is in the ignition it’s very hard to get back out. Only way I’ve found is to slide a paper clip on top of key and it helps it release.

how easy is it to change the ignition barrel and also will it need programming to the car?

Matt

You mean the fob dock? It doesn't have an ignition barrel as such.

The dock can often be repaired, as they have a habit of getting gummed up with a mix of dried grease and dirt. However it requires a degree of skill to strip, clean, lubricate and reassemble.

A replacement does need to be synchronised to the rest of the vehicle, with a suitable diagnostic programmer.

Can you not blast the docking station with an aerosol cleaner/degreaser (brake-cleaner) and then a fine spray of silicone lube to fix this sort of thing?

Got to say I’m a bit worried about blasting a load of stuff in there? What does e wry one think?

the weird thing is if you slide a paper clip a little ways in it releases!?!

Sounds like it needs to come apart for proper cleaning and lubrication.
