Hi all, been having some grief with wifes freelander 2 hse 2007 auto.
It keeps spitting out keys and will go totally dead. Until you touch battery terminals together. Plugged my ob2 in and get code
P1259 immobiliser to power control module. Iv changed key fobs and had new one but still does it
Thanks

Was hoping to find where the immobiliser to powertrain control module is and what it entails to change . Does it need to be reprogrammed

The vehicle doesn't use an immobiliser as such.
When the key is docked, the key code is sent to several modules (key dock, ABS, CJB, ECM and Ipack) in the vehicle for authentification. Once all the modules confirm that the key is correct for the vehicle, the ABS module sends out the key OK data, and the ignition will then be allowed to come on.

Your code isuggests that there's some missing data somewhere, but it's strange that it works after a hard reset.
It's possible the dock is a fault, at least that's where I'd start looking.

Yea i thought the dock might be at fault and have got another to fit , but looks like it needs reprogramming even though it came with two keys

Was wondering if it is worth replacing the bcm ,ecu, door lock modules and clocks as found a second hand set

The dock from another vehicle won't work unless it's configured to the vehicle using suitable diagnostic equipment.

You'll need to replace all modules relevant to the start authentification, or it still won't start. However replacement of modules from other vehicles doesn't guarantee a fix to the current issue, and will likely create more complex issues, as many modules are configured to an individual VIN, which will carry features from the VIN build sheet.
I'd start by checking all electrical connections on all modules, before causing more issues by swapping things about.

Checked connections on key dock, bcm and ecu all seem fine. The fault is intermittent and car might be fine for a month or could do it twice in a week. This is what i get when odb2 is pluggged in. Once i clear it , it runs fine fora while

Very odd. You might need the fault to become more regular, before you can trace it down.
