Freelander 2 auto starter motor

hi, my daughter has a 2008 Freelander 2 auto, she has said sometimes the starter won’t turn, she has a new battery. It only happens now and again,. Someone surgested hitting the starter with a long post, this worked. What are your thoughts ?

Tapping a starter to get it working kind of proves something is sticking. Normally the solenoid sticking.

Thanks, can you just buy or repair the selenoid

Most of the time it is the contacts & plunger that need changing they wear down. cost for parts is about £13.00 and an hours work to remove and replace including changing the contacts and plunger.

Link below is for FL1 & R40 but the FL2 starter is basically the same it uses the same contacts & plunger.
