Freelander 1 vs 2 Maintenance

Hey all, new to this website but impressed so far!
Essentially I'm looking to pick up a late model Freelander 1 for around 3000-4000pounds. After scouring around autotrader for a bit I discovered it is also possible to get a low spec Freelander 2 within that price bracket.
Specs don't unduly bother me, but running costs do. I know the Freelander 2 is a better built/refined car compared to the first gens, but with a highish mileage one (about 100k), but how much higher would the running costs/maintenance be?
Anyone who has owned either of these cars advice is greatly appreciated!

As a rule the FL2 is a better built vehicle. However the FL1 is less complex and generally easier and cheaper to repair, when things go wrong.

Get the fl2 they are a great mode of transportation!
