Freelander 1 Locking wheel nut

The locking wheel nut on my 2006 Freelander 1, has been lost. The handbook says the code for the nut is on the security info. However on my security info, I have the radio code and serial number but there is no code written in the space provided. Thank you Land Rover main dealer! (whoever you are)

It seems there are 8 different patterns. I did read somewhere that you can get the correct nut from a photo of the stud. There must also be a universal locking wheel nut for such a situation as mine. Any help and advice would be much appreciated!

Pretty much any tyre fitter can remove the locker (they will charge), so you can replace it with a conventional wheel nut.
Nobody steals wheels now, especially off a 20 year old 1600kg car, so swapping the locking nuts to ordinary nuts makes minimal difference to security of the vehicle.

You can buy a locking nut removal socket or just get an old 21/22 mm socket give it a few whacks on to the wheel nut and undo it yourself free of charge

Have you called LR and asked for it? A new one cost about 15£ as far as I remember. It's not that much I think. If not you might squeeze the number out of them and order on island4x4 if too expensive. I think I sent a picture to LR once and they figured the right one out. That's mine, it's B/79. Maybe if some else can post pictures you might be able to figure it out that way as well.

I parked my FL1 in a dodgy parking spot, and when I returned, the special wheel nut key was missing. Unfortunately, I only realized this a few days later. What's worse, I bought it without the card containing the security info needed to purchase a new one.

Here's a snapshot of mine. Any guesses on the model?

Unfortunately, here in Brazil, we still face the issue of wheel theft when there's no locking mechanism installed.

Thank you for your idea, it's definitely a possibility. For now, it's secured, so I won't have any issues unless one of the tires goes flat. In the meantime, I'll keep trying to figure it out.

Dunno if a LR dealer there could help you out.

Its the sort of info they provide if you can prove ownership of the car - ie the key code.

Even if they can't provide it, or provide it at a reasonable price, you can then purchase 1 elsewhere.

The key number or letter is on the nut. So you just need to give that number to an LR dealer so they can order you a replacement key. Also keep the new key it in the boot floor box for security.

Yeah, I read that information in another post... The issue is that it was precisely stored, locked with the key in the trunk compartment, but oh well, it's done now... Thanks for the help, Nodge!

I have just noticed I have lost one of my front locking wheel nuts (tyre shop must have not tightened it up ......)
But reading this (and this), anyone can undo them pretty easily anyway I guess, so I will just stick a normal wheel nut on
Maybe explains slight vibration I have around 140kmh tho (hypothetically)

You are supposed to check yourself / re torque after 30/50 miles

Sorry to revive an old thread, but this came up in a search since I just sheared off the 2 lugs in my security bolt key which seem to be the same size as the OP.

As I still have the key, I can see the markings indicating the code number, but they are misaligned...

I've just called my local LR dealer who said they don't keep these records, or sell the key bolts, they also (maybe) helpfully said if I was to go there they could extract all the old security bolts. I say "maybe helpfully" as he didn't say if I would be charged.

Anyway, if mine is a code 56, did the OP find that a code "A" was the same size?

I've seen some on ebay marked as A, but none marked as 56.

Failing that, I will try to extract them all and replace with standard bolts, but does anyone know the size of bolt I would need?
I'm running on ally wheels.

You can't put any old bolt on, put standard wheel nuts on, same as the other ones on your wheel, they are a certain shape and material for a reason ...

Don't muck around trying to sort the locking nuts out, just get 5 Freelander wheel nuts from a breakers and get those locking ones taken off.

Miraculously, my local stealer removed them free of charge, I followed him round the car putting the replacements on as he took the locking ones off. TBH I think they were embarrassed that they didn't have a master set of keys. They used an Irwin (or what ever they are called).

No one is going to nick your rims, although tyres might be nickable. However, locking nuts are just as easy to remove as the regular nuts if you have an Irwin.
