Good Day All..
I have read a post by Hippo about the IRD on the Freelander 1's. Excelent info, (Thanx Hippo), I am now stuck with a Busted IRD,
I can get a second hand box from British 4X4, My concern is, the available IRD is from a manual transmission, and I have the automatic, Will it work???
Im in South Africa, so landy parts is quite hard to come by and verypricy..

Any Info would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards

All IRDs are the same between automatic and manual, except the V6 IRD, which is different, however I've read that the V6 IRD does fit a 4 cylinder engine.

Make sure you replace the VCU, and fit 4 identical tyres too.

Thanx Meneer, my tyres and VCU is good, i still dont know why it got busted up..
another question, what oil does the IRD run on? I did oil change on both the gearbox and IRD less than 3 months ago, i was told by the general motor spares shop that the IRD runs on ATF, is that correct?

No, that's completely incorrect, and probably the reason the IRD failed.
It MUST use 75w90 fully synthetic gear oil only, as it's a very hard working component, which needs an oil with excellent load carrying capacity.

Sons of b@#$& sold me the wrong oil...
Thanx Nodge, ill get the right stuff now, probably gona pick up the reconditioned IRD in next week, so hopefully my FL will run in the next 2 weeks...
Thanx for the help..
