Whilst trying to locate access horn saw a small white plastic box with a pipe from engine and a pipe to ECU, it was floating around in free space between engine and ECU. it was pointing down and forwards at about 40 degrees.

Looked at the fitting and found the mating point and put it back where it should be.

Bit of reading told me it was the fuel trap.

When I drove the car this morning it felt remarkably different, was able to travel through village in top at 30 where for ages it has been 4th, if i apply throttle it actually smoothly pulls away, on the small uphill where i would definitely had to be in 4th to do 30mph, just applied a bit of throttle and it maintained 30mph Outside of the village I tried a more aggressive accelertion it pulls far more smoothly and accelerates great.

Question, is it my imagination or is it due to re mounting the part, know what it is but no idea how it works or affects performance.

BTW found out what it was by using Rave Cd and MrCat thank you to folks who originally posted such useful info.

I'm assuming it's a pre 2000 K series FL1?
If so, then it will run lots better if the ECU knows what the MAP value is.

yep it is a aug 2000 1.8i k series, out of interest how would the fuel trap "Hanging loose" prevent it getting correct MAP values
Were the pipes connected? I assumed one wasn't. If the trap was in circuit, but was just flopping about, then it shouldn't affect the MAP value seen by the ECU. Unless one of the pipes has a slight leak while it's hanging loose?

both pipes connected, assume it had been removed from stowage rail on ecu when engine work done and not out on at the end, a definite noticeable improvement
