Having checked previous posts, it seems that with facelift models such as my 2004 TD4, there is no way to change the headlights to drive on the right and beam-deflectors need to be fitted. If these deflectors are still the types I remember, they generally look incredibly naff and would they work anyway on a big, one piece multi-lamp units?
I may be working in Sweden next year, staying for at least 6 months and taking the Freelander, naturally - looking forward to driving over "The Bridge" which was on the telly! So I suppose getting hold of LHD Freelander lamp units might be an option - I assume they would fit (unless the looms are different?) There are some big scrappers in Germany who could well have some. Is this feasible, do we know?
Many thanks.

Lhd headlights are available and are the best option for longer trips on the continent. The beam adjusters you described just cut out the curb spotters. These are the slight upturn to the beam on the left of the lights main pattern. These curb spotters can be covered with a shaped mask that are functional rather than pretty.

With beam deflectors/diffusers, at best you usually end up with a flat-topped beam without the curb-side kickup for lighting up road signs etc. The same is true of headlights that have a lever that can be shifted across- usually this just internally masks off the kickup and leaves a flat beam. If you're going to be spending any significant time on the continent, a set of LHD headlights is the best option.

Thanks for that, I totally agree that the LHD headlight units would be the best solution. Just need to be dead sure that they would fit straight into the RHD fitting points on the car and connect to the UK loom/plugs without having to modify or mess around with them. I'm being so cautious as I don't want to alter the LHD lights in any way in case I want to re-sell them later. But if it worked, it would be a very neat fix!

Thanks, guys. What I'll do is as soon as I see a cheap one for sale, I'll buy it and do trial fit straight away, well before I'm due to travel. Then look for it's twin if all is OK.

Well I managed to get a pair of the LHD lighting units but they are very scarce for the "Facelift" 2004-6 model anywhere, even here in the UK for RHD versions. Mine are coming from Ebay seller GB Autoparts Inc., Jacksonville, Florida, United States, total cost for the pair incuding postage and import duty is £208-58. I am sure that I would have no problem at all re-selling them in the future, given their scarcity so that's a "result" as I see it!
