Freelander 1.8 Petrol - Is it worth it?

My deepest aplologies in adviance if this sort of thing is not appropriate in this section or gets posted about alot....

Im completely new to all this and have just seen this at local car dealership;

Freelander XEI 1.8 / Petrol / 5 door / W reg / 60 miles for £3,000

Looks in good condition to the untrained eye, 2 owners, full service history..am i missing somthing?? This sounds good value but I have no expereince in freelanders and i'm guessing pretty fuel hungry is a given..

Any expert advice or comparison would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds ok, but make them give you the money upfront!

haha, yes get a freelander, they're brilliant cars. they will go forever and are really economical.


As long as you leave it in a perfectly dry garage, and never run it. Heaven forbid the doors will get wet as they will fall off. And don't even think about starting it, as soon as the ignition key hits the spring in the barrel, the head gasket may or may not have a complete epileptic fit.

Theys int all bad the series un td4's is allreet. . . . .un er lot er 1.8's are still running wiff no trouble. . . . . . .but dunt get the doors wet

I bought one.....its great and as for economy...compared to my old vauxhall frontera its a dream.

used to get bout that on my old 1.8... dunt get that on my td4 though....but it feels more like freelander....jus dunt git t doors wet... ..

Right. For a start it's overpriced. That model/age/mileage shouldn't retail for anything over about £2250. It actually books at about £1600 onto which a dealer should stick about £500. That don't make £3K........

Secondly, it's a 1.8 petrol which, if you do a quick search, you will see is not the best choice. Freelanders are great but you must get a diesel.

500 quid....traded my old 99 1.8 in, dealer allowed me 1500. one hour later drove past, price on screen.....3500!!!!

I'm afraid that dealer is taking advantage. But then that's how they make a living! On a cheap car £500 or a bit more is a typical markup. £3K-10K looking at about a £1K markup. The fancier the dealership the larger the markup is likely to be - The leather sofas and coffee have to be paid for!

Of course, dealers can try and sell a car at any price they like.....
