Not an expedition as such but I've for a week offin June. And I've decided to hit south France for some lanes. But here's the tricky bit. What's the best area for me to buy maps for. Or even better what maps... I've traveled France alot but never off the beaten. Just want to see some nice scenery really and abit of sun. If anyone has coordinates for decent lanes that would be handy aswell! Cheers.

Have you got memory Map?

If so I have a load of IGN maps .. no routes marked, but good detail. Be aware there's a different system in France, they don't have green lanes as such. My understanding is that you can usually drive most lanes that aren't locked and barred and signed. Many clubs have specific rights in ski areas, for instance, to have sole rights to drive ski runs and skiing areas.

Sketchy info I know, so check if you can .. ;)

Try Stanford's in London for paper maps or look on wikiloc for GPS tracks.
Quite a few old military roads down that way and some nice mountain passes from the French border into Swiss and Italy.
I'm doing three weeks round Europe with a stop in Tende to head up to a fort or two there.
Look for a post from griffdawg and go on his sirocco link. He did the south of France a few years back.
