Found - Under Drivers Seat.......

...... a small black rubber tray about 41/2 x 31/2 x 1/2 inch in old money, with Land Rover embossed into it. Usual knobbly rubber non-slip interior base. Bit of velcro on rear.

Does not seem to fit anywhere, does it belong with the car?

Handy enough anyway in drivers door pocket to keep coins and such.

does it fit on top of dash board

could be the armrest tray?

No recess that looks rectangular, just the two at corner of windows sort of arc shaped. It would stick on dash or airbag cover I guess, look a bit out of place though.

Looking at a few other is what I figured, except me armrest has no recess. It's a solid lump of cheap plastic.

There is a small recess behind the auto stick, sort of a dished area, too big for that, there is a sort of slot in front of the stick under the ashtray/lighter now you mention it, but the rubber thingy would be like a drawer in there?

I will give it a try tomorrow though, but suspect it is indeed for the armrest I do not have, I believe some are recessed. I never got a rear ashtray or lighter either, just a blanking plate.

There are two places for them to go. One little recess near the drivers door side of the dashboard and one near passenger side door. Il put a pic up if you can't find what I mean.

Can't seem to see what you mean, pic appreciated if no trouble. It is rectangular not the arc shaped ones....

My Auto has a recessed centre console armrest that this would fit into. Perhaps yours got changed by previous owner?

Thanks (and to Fake Elvis) pretty sure thats what it is. I just seem to have an older armrest - solid and hard plastic. May have been changed as you say.

undoubtedly what it is, describes the rubber mat I took out of my arm rest recess before fitting me...(gulp) black leffer armrest.

(search for mings black leffer armrest gang and all will be revealed)

Mine is a 1998 manual and if that pic on eBay is identical to what you got then I know exactly where they fit and there is two of them. It's not near the gearstick or on an armrest. But yours is probably different because it's newer.
