Found an oil cooler under me wing, is it sposed to be there? It's about as much use as a chocolate firegaurd under there in my humble opinion, so where should it be then please?

Twas hidden by the chequer plate:)

Well what a nice surprise. It appears to be plumbed into something, but can you trace it to your oil filter housing on the left side of your engine? I don't know what year Land Rover first started fitting oil coolers to their diesels, but I do know that the TD5's and later have an oil cooler positioned kind of in front of and below the radiator (if you're looking at the front of the vehicle), where the front panel has a load of small square shaped ventilation holes. Obviously, if you have an older vehicle without the necessary mounts and without the perforated front panel, it's not in too bad a spot there (well it wouldn't be with the right wing top accessory - LR106RG Wing Top Air Scoop with grille - RH - obviously get it for the right side though!

If you can mount it between the radiator and the front grill, that would be ideal, but if not, somewhere between the radiator and the engine will work fine. It's up to you

I've undone it and will snip the tie wraps on the pipes tomorrow and then I can see where it will fit.
The pipes look long enough to go just in front of the radiator so I'll maybe stick it there.
Do I need one dya think, will it overcool the sump oil specially as its gettin colder these days, does the V8 have one as standard, it's an '84 model?

unless your going to be pulling massive loads or doing some heavy duty mud plugging i can't see any point in having that cooler - especially on an old low compression rover V8

I agree,
It's 10 to 1 comp on this engine BTW:p
But I wont need it unless towing in the summer on twisty hilly routes. Just needed someone to tell me that though.
Think I'll leave it on and blank it off for the winter then it's allways there if I need it.
Spose an '84 V8 didn't have one then:)
