check your front radius arm-axle bushes as these can wear excessively and can cause the exact symtoms of a worn mainshaft in the gearbox!
just lift a front wheel and rock it back and forth while looking at the front axle. if they are fooked the whole axle will be rocking backwards and forwards.

dunno how to tell m8, it could be, well worth considering and makes sense, bit hard to check though....

New box i guess........ covers all avenues then.....

There is a round plate on the back of the transfer box, take this off and you can pull the gear out and check the splines.Unfourtunatly it's usualy the splines that wear and the gogs tip top!

is there a simple way of isolating exactly where these clunks are coming fron i.e front axle/diff,transfer box, rear axle/diff,propshafts.if you can narrow it down roughly where these fooking clunks are coming from it makes the job a little easier.what about removing either propshaft can you drive at all speeds with diff lock selected and front/rear prop removed or will it knacker your box up.
