Flip front conversion!!!

Hello All,

Thought you might like this. I'm new to LR scene (pass me down S3 that's been in family from new). Anyway I'm an engineer and cut long story short I got fed up with having to take wings front pannel off every time wanted to have a little lookie....
...so came up with this. I did a little research and saw that a few people have attached wings and front pannel to bonnet but hated the fact that with this you only really had access to rad and not bulk head....

...So a bit of fabrication, bit of head scratching, few bolts and BANG - HOWYOULIKEMENOW!!!!!

Got to be a first?

I think that's a flamin great idea. Hinged at the front not using the original bonnet hinges.

It'll keep the wind off yer back while yer changing the plugs.

I've done this with a few mini's, it the first I've seen on a landy tho.

I'm going to change the clutch so now not sure if its engine out or gearbox shuffle...

...Any ideas?

howd u do that ?
did you just make up a frame to sit it all on or just bolt them all togeather ?
and where about did you mount the hinges ?

Saw that kind of idea in the 80s and 90s. But was hinged the other way using the bonnet hinges. Good for triallers etc when you need to get in everywhere for cleaning and maintenance.

Few things you gotta consider - firstly you need to mount the radiator - you need weld a couple of brackets to the chassis and make up a l shape to bolt rad frame to.

On my conversion I put a sub frame under the front pannel and bolted wings to this.

few other things you need to think about - the inner wings caused a massive head ache firstly they bolt to the up rights towards bulk head to stop them rattling around so you need to cut them off before this and make new brackets as they will be too long to tip forward.

I serious recommend getting a cheap set of ebay to practise on!

Also the tipping point is critical best to get the tiping point above (or forward) of the wings other wise they will hit the chasssis .

Last thing to remember is the wiring - it all needs to be extended as its not long enough - I ended up making a new one and splicing into the old after cutting it with bullet connectors so if required I could remove the whole front end nice and quick.

I you go down this route it make your life SOOOO much easier as to flip it takes about a min and give you access to fan matrix batery stack for a spruce up - well worth it!
