Evening all,

I have a 'flat spot' in my acceleration. Happens in 1st, 2nd and 3rd at 2500 rpm. literally you hit 2500 rpm and it's like a limiter momenteraly kicks in then carries accelerating as normal. My engine is currently underpowered... still to be investigated... so not sure if this is related. Blanked the EGR at the weekend, this has improved the acceleration problem slightly but it's still very noticable.

As always any thoughts gratefully accepted!

ONCE AGAIN >>>> WHAT ENGINE IS IT?

If it's a TD5 first check that the plug on the ECU isn't all oily. If it is, clean it really well, and the socket. That might be the job done.

Re: Flat spot in acceleration
sorry Disco 300, 2.5 tdi

I get this with my 300 tdi also, it is like it is hunting for fuel, it occurs with me at around 2500 to 2800 rpm. Someone said it could be the fuel pump, I wonder if it more simple, like I just need to change the fuel filter? I will be doing this first and soon, will let you know the results.

2.5 300 series.
I have the dreaded flat spot at 2500rpm, when the engine is under load. I have changed fuel and air filter, replaced the fuel leak off hoses, checked the turbo hoses for splits. I have not been able to tackle the fuel sedimenter yet.

I did the fuel filter on mine a couple of weeks ago so it definately isn't that on mine. Haven't done the sedimenter yet but doing the boot welding soon so will have it off then. Havent done the valve clearences yet, could it be that?

I have a TD5 that had a flat spot. I was told it would need a new Air Mass sensor (£95). I read a suggestion, on this forum, that spraying the sensor with electrical contact cleaner would sort the sensor out. Yesterday I bought a can from Halfords (£4.99), sprayed some on the sensor, let it evaporate re-assembled the unit and it now works like a dream!!! No more power loss or flat spot. Lets hope the economy improves again as well!

2500 rpm? bloody hell my disco only ever hits that in top gear.

Yep, I agree with that.

REVS kills engines, not hard work.

Low revs means each injection of fuel gets more TIME to burn, so efficiency goes up.

My tractor is governed to a maximum speed of 2,200 rpm, with about 60 bhp and a zillion foot-pounds of torque in 1st gear Low Slow.
Most tractors run at speeds like that. It means even FARMERS have difficulty in breaking them!

In my TD5 Disco I use up to about 2,200 rpm in first gear, and then a bit less in each gear up to 5th, by which time I will be doing 55mph or so.

After I had it chipped by JE Engineering I did 540 miles on 81 litres of diesel. These miles include townwork, and a couple of hours in low range off road, and some motorway cruising - Oh yes and a quick blast to see what happens ... WOW! We best not discuss the velocity involved, but I am told it was a long way from 2 figures. You should have seen me pulling this morning out to pass a line of cars that WOULD NOT overtake a 4mph street-sweeper on the open road. The first guy I went past was in a wee VW hatch of some sort and he came right out after me then spoke to me at the roundabout 2 miles up the road. "What the Hell have you got under that bonnet!?" was his enquiry. He said he would never have believed it if he hadn't seen it. I told him it was just an old 2.5 diesel LandRover. "DIESEL!!???" he shouted! "NO WAY!!!" Then he shot off as boy racers tend to do. What fun!

I think that's 17.8 GB gallons for 540 miles, 30.3 miles per gallon. Not bad at all.
