Every now & again when i first start up the car/start driving you can tell that it seems 'not right' a bit 'stuttery' & the Engine Management Light flashes Amber on & off....have gotten used to it 'cause all i have to do is stop the car & switch the ignition off/restart & it runs fine BUT i would really like to get to the bottom of it & get it fixed, have changed plugs before/swapped around the coil packs but no difference....always seems to be the 1st time i drive it that day. Could go for days/weeks b4 it does it again....

About time i sorted it so any ideas

Hi, have an OBD2 already & your right..usually says 'misfire cylinder 3' but off the top of my head cant remember if this changes to different cylinders.....have had this happen for 2yrs now, the last time i actually did anything was i cleared the fault codes & swapped round the coil packs but it happened again later so ruled out them....i'm thinking sensor as its so intermittent & the Engine Management Light only flashes, it never stays on

When I was having that problem I changed the Throttle position sensor, about £10 on ebay from what I can remember. Haven't had any issues since, fingers crossed and all

Just checked....cheapest is around £60

Would worry that i bought it & it didnt cure the problem....:(

Mine used to come on randomly whilst I was driving, flickered a bit then nothing from a few days to a few weeks.
It measures the position of the throttle, the name gives it away a bit lol

Yeh dum question eh....so i guess if it was acting up it would cause the 'stuttering' etc.....no used ones on Fleabay so will have to do some looking around ;)

Read the fault codes before buying anything. The idea behind the OBD system is it does the diagnosis for you. If you have a misfire, in time you will damage the cat ;)

Just hooked up my scanner...fault codes were all 'cylinder misfire' either 1-4 & misc all cylinders, as i said its only now & again & he rest of the time the car runs sweet...will buy a Throttle Position Sensor first & fingers crossed :crazy_driver:

Well i bought/fitted a brand new Throttle Position Sensor today.....for the sake of an extra £15 i thought a new one would be better than a 2nd hand scrappy one....so fingers crossed!!
As i mentioned it is an intermittent fault that only lasts about a minute so i will just have to wait & see.
If no luck i will change the IACV sensor next....there is another sensor further along as well looking from right to left....wondering if this could also be the cause

Nope not really, that's the manifold pressure sensor

I would be changing the ignition coil for cylinders 1 and 4 as that's the only thing common to both ;)
