Flange Seal

Anyway to my next D I Y Job.
As I pulled the shafts out to inspect them all this crud came out with them. Is there a special way to clean these out or will a rag on the end of a stick do. Don't want to put it all back together like this.
The front one was not like this.

Now That I've got the Flange sorted, will start to refurb the axle, clean, prime and paint. but was thinking of converting to disc brakes, been reading up a little on it and seems like I can use hubs from front axle, just happens I have 2 good ones here, I know I will have to buy caliper mountings.
Anyone done this ? is it worth it ? Or with my track record :oops: of D I Y jobs might be as well to leave alone.
 
you can use 300tdi front hubs as they are as std on a salisbury disc axle so if you use the other 300 tdi parts too you have a disc axle,which would be ftc1740,ftc3306,ftc1725 ,ftc1724,ftc3846,ftc859,stc1601,stc1268,stc1269

Thanks James so about £300 for bits, Might reconsider now, I thought the only bits I would have to buy were calliper mounts and callipers,

those caliper mounts are made to fit the parts i listed,not to say things cant be manufactured to fit other combinations of parts, i just gave you the std bolt on lr solution

Thanks, Was trying to work out cost using parts on the Salisbury I have, would I still need stub axles and shafts or could I use mine,
