I rescued a couple of stranded drivers this morning on Ripley Lane between Ripley and East Horsley!

Whenever there’s any significant rainfall the road turns into a mini river. A couple of weeks back it was deep enough to make my A3 TDI Quattro float!

I drove around a few nervous drivers waiting at the water’s edge in the Gaylander. Close to reaching the other end of the first flood there was a stranded woman in a Polo. She waved me down and said she’d run out of battery (the car was nose down up to the bottom of the headlights) as the car would'nt start. I cringed at the thought of bent Conrods if she’d taken water in!

I had no recovery equipment what-so-ever (or Wellies!) so just got out and pushed her back out of the water. She never got out or offered to help, but she did say thanks. I was running late for work, so when she asked “what do you think is wrong with the car”, I suddenly had ‘no mechanical knowledge’.

Less than half a mile later on the same road there’s a Focus with a chap in, again stranded in water. Already wringing wet from pushing the Polo out, I pushed him out too. He did get out and help, and said thanks too.

So I’ve started down the road of reducing my negative karma. The cost of this so far is £6 for a couple of pairs of new socks, my trousers have since dried out, and my trainers are currently in the boiler room!

Mini river or mini pond? Either way there are issues concerning what is lurking under the water. Drains are under pressure and can collapse.... check out you-tube for video's of these.

Those of us in 4x4 Response have had much discussion about this, especially after the various fatalities and numerous swamped cars reported in the news.

no pics....didnt happen ;)

well done yu but as above be veeery careful, anything could have moved "down river" and potentially be something you could get stuck on.

Then who knows in a freelander may loose some doors (im a freeby owner too you have to join in)

Doors managed to stay on....to my surprise.

The small amount of recovery gear I do own was tucked up warm and dry in my garage. Wellies (or waders) were sorely needed.

As for driving through flood water.....I don't drink, I don't smoke, I always wear a condom, eat my greens and keep my weapon pointed down range....I need to do something to feel alive!!

Pictures, pfff

At the end of the video the road started to dip down slightly again. The headlights in the distance were the Polo.
