FL1 On Board Computer

I had one in my old 3 series and it also told me how many miles I had left until I ran out of fuel. On one occasion it went down to "0", yet it went on for over 50 miles and I didn't even run out of fuel...
I've not heard of a Freelander 1 with a OBC. I am guessing there isn't one because there's no room for one without a major change in design.

No fuel computer on the FL1 that I've ever seen. Having said that mine has a good system. When the fuel guage reaches zero its time to fill up........ Why have anything clever? Our Picasso has all sorts of stats on its computerised dash. I wouldn't trust it to speak my weight. It can't even tell me how much fuel there is in the tank with any accuracy.
i wondered this too. my hse has 2 needles by the trip counter. 1 swaps between the total miles and the trip miles then if held resets the trip. the other on the left does nothing that i can see???? i assumed this would be for the OBC and i didnt have it as an option etc?!?!?

Only thing I would like on the FL1 is an external temp display - I bought a stand alone one from Lidl for £3 and its accurate so why couldn't Land Rover have spent an extra £3 and fitted one into the dash display!

I agree. I have a cheap temp meter and run the external cable and sensor into the near side front wheel arch. Anyone have a better position I should use?

That is where my sensor is as well! seems to work fine there.

Where did you chaps get the temperature sensors and screen from?
I believe my old car had its sensor underneath the front bumper. (but not exposed)
If your temperature display is showing the correct temperature, it's probably best left where it is.

They did have outside temp display combined in climate control but only for some cold climate markets.....

I fitted an external temp and put the sensor under the front bumper but when moving slowly or stationery the temp reading goes up which must be heat from the rad or engine, does this not happen with the sensor under the wheel arch ??
Still badly missing my OBC ! can not believe that a 2004 vehicle does not have one.

That would be similar to the display on the TD5 for temp - you pressed a button and it displayed the external temp.

I fitted a "Scangauge 2" search for this on internet. Its mounted above the rear view mirror and connects to the diagnostic plug in the passenger footwell (2005 Td4). It takes a bit of setting up but displays, mpg, rpm, roadspeed, voltage, water temp, induction temp, induction pressure and more.
If you want to mount on mirror you will need to buy the mounting kit with extension lead as well.
