From what i can read on jer and elsewhere , as some time the FL 1 front disks/brake system chamged to vented disks.

When was this and was it just disks, or what other items changed. Ive similar on my 89 celica gt. They changed em about 91.That meant new larger disks and callipers to suit, but hub etc remained the same. You would pick calipers up 2nd hand and get the new larger disks when replacing. Was considered a good updateand improved braking

If you have a pre change fl1 is it relatively easy to fit the newer disks or is there a lot more to it. Understand rims also need to change to fit if you go down that road. Dont know what i have but will have to change shortly for mot. Be looking at them this weekend. Wifes says there squeaking. Just wanted to see what my options were.

Also do fl2 rims fit fl1?

And what is considered largest rims you should fit on an fl1 pre face lift , Assuming you dont adjust tyre depth to compensate.

Correct. The brakes were upgraded considerably.

It came with the 2001MY update.

Front got larger diameter vented discs and different calipers. The rear got larger rear drums. The servo was changed to a duel diaphragm higher boost type and a larger master cylinder was fitted

Yes all parts retrofit.

No. The PCD, spigot and offset are all different.

I'm running 18" rims on mine, with 235/55/18 tyres fitted.

But would that be with tyres adjusted for lower profile?. I like a bit of meat on my tyres. 18 with standard profile tyres be okay and how do the 18's affect drive and handling. Do you lose anything. In performance or gain?.

My tyres are 55% profile instead of the Sport rims standard 50%, so the overall diameter is larger. I prefer a bit more side wall, as it make the ride softer.

The 18" rims give a large increase in grip, providing the tyres aren't crappy Chinese rubbish. I can throw my FL1 about without any worries, in dry or wet on the 235/55/18 Cooper tyres I have fitted.
