Firstly let me say this is not an advert, I'll post in the for sale section if I decide its worth it!

I have 2 Discos at the moment (my wife's D1, and my D2). It look alike I will be getting a works van pretty soon so that plan was to get rid of the D1, let my wife have my D2, and I would have the van.

The D1 is a 1996 V8 with around

The D1 has just failed its MOT on a few things that are not really major, but are a bit of a pain in the arse for me as its mainly welding, and I have no time at the moment as work is very demanding.

The failures are :-

1. 4 of the outriggers (2 on each side) need welding

2. The middle pipe between the back box and mid box on the exhaust is rotten and full of holes

3. A track rod end needs replacing

4. A tyre needs replacing (due to wearing because of the track rod end), but I have a spare one anyway.

So either way I'm looking to sell the car, but do you think I would be better selling as is for spares, or pay to get it fixed and sell it as a runner?

Regards

Ben

depends on how much welding is needed track rod ,rear exhaust are cheap an easy v8 parts engine box etc arent widely sought ,but there is a buyer somewhere but 300 would be esaier and have more value

Does not sound like a monster job to someone who has welding facilities. I'd probrably accept a loss and let someone else get it back on the road again. Knowing the money discos go for...it probrably don't owe you anything if at all.

Your right about it not owing me much, although it did have a new head gasket a couple of years ago, but even thats paid back by now I guess :)

And yes its not really a major amount of work that needs to be done, I guess its just finding somebody around Bristol who would be interested.

I'll sleep on it, and then probably stick it in the for sale.

If you cant do the jobs and have to pay someone else to do it.. I think you'll be out of pocket.

just sell the thing as it is

Yes, if you can do the jobs, or some of it, then its worth doing...but to pay someone else at the going rate, unfortunately you may well end up out of pocket... Having said that tho, much depends on the weather at the moment, quite literally!!...you might well get quite a lot more for a runner when there's snow on the ground, or fallin from the sky;)

To get the MOST money from an old motor like this that has failed an MOT, is to break it for bits and sell the bits...ironically they are worth far more in bits than they are as complete cars...tho you have to put up with the mess of it all!.....

But, if you decide on the later option, I am looking (and gettin a bit desparate) for the PAS pump mount assembly from a V8 serpentine engine, so would happily buy this part off you!!:p

Hope it works out in the end for ya

Sounds a dam sight easier than most that I have turn up here :)

Think you'll find thats cause some look at their Landys more the what they owe or stand the owner at..... my self I cant see how a car can owe the owner anything.

easy choice, either you want it or you dont........

If you want it mend it...

If you dont want it dont mend it an sell it.
