Hi guys, looking for some advice!
I've got a 3 door Face lift (05) and I'm putting on roof rails tomorrow, I've taken off the panels at the back, and went to take off panels on top, I've taken off small plastic cover (3/4 wide by 4 inches long) there's a larger plastic cover also running from the back of the sunroof to the front of the hardtop, & underneath it, I think.

A) I'm guessing this has to come off, how do I do it, front pops up but don't want to force back

B) Does the hardtop need to come off the get this off?

C) Does this Plastic cover need to go back on after or is that why there is small pieces which I've already removed!

Asusual all help appreciated, need to get it on quick as I'm meeting the guy at 6.30 & need to get to a game at 7.45!

wouldnt of thought the roof would have to come off. Crap design if it did other than than i cant help. Get the drill out and some cable ties? left it a little late.....

Only decided to take it tonight, thought it would be straight forward enough (I should have known better!) I'm working outdoors tomorrow so I can always nip off for 10mins to take it apart if there's a straightforward solution!

There is a video on you tube which shows how to remove a hard top and roof rails from a three door. Not exactly what you're doing but gives you some useful information. I think I searched under 'Freelander Roof' to find it.

I hope this helps.

Yeah, I've seen that vid, a blue 3 door, got some ideas alright, thanks!
I've borrowed a van from work so I'm just going to collect it& bring it home & look at it Sunday instead at which point I'll be back on again!;)

You only need to remove the 4 inch panels , you will then see the 2 bolts to remove , then you bolt the plastic block , ( in with the fixing kit ) with 2 longer bolts provided , the front of the roof bar is attached to the block with a single bolt

So I got the roof rail from a pre facelift model, but it doesnt fit the facelift model, I rang the main dealers and they say there is no adapter kits for them.

Is this correct and have I made a bit of a cock up? :(

Didnt pay too much for them but cant see ahuge demand if I have to offload them again!

I wouldn't imagine they're different! Did they come with the four mounting blocks?

No, I asked about them when I rang originally, but I was in a rush to a get somewhere when I collected em & didn't check until I went to fit them, when I realisesd they weren't on!
Anyway, from my limited understanding the there should be a spare bolt hole in the back but there isnt except for the 2 that hold on the plastic cover.

I priced a new one originally through the main dealers and it was €500 + vat so it made sense to go the seconds route!

You take the two trims off the back and there's two alloy castings that bolt on to the body. Same for the top mounts. You remove the strip take two bolts out then bolt an alloy mount in the gap which the bars then bolt to! It's to make the bars easy to remove to take the roof on and off. It sounds like you haven't got the mounting blocks to me:(

Cool, I'll go back to the guy I got em from and see if I he still has them, excuse my stupidity but the mounting blocks from the older model will fit the newer one?

Sorry to resurrect this thread again, I finally got the rear mounting blocks but the front/top ones were not available as the car had been scrapped!

Will the mounting blocks from the top of a 5door do on top of the 3door or is it specific to 3 door?
Sorry again for digging this up but at least ye can see where I'm going with it (slowly!)

I tried going into the local supplier but they said they could only get the full set up, in fairness to the guy, he did give me the part numbers and told me to google them that it was crazy.
The guy was going to try the scrapyard but I was looking for an easy way out!
