Fitting chequerplate, just rivet?

no I don't need to drill the roof, I'm only fitting the chequer on the regular places so that I can walk on the front of the car whilst sorting out the rack.

I think I'll just silicone them so I can remove and respray them, or incase I ding a wing or something and need to swap the chequer over, although I am going to write down that name though as it sounds like mental stuff!!!
 
if your CP has already been pre-bored just line it up on the sills and mark the holes with a felt-tip pen through these holes...then use a drillbit with a cork on the end so you dont disappear into the landy when you bore through...pop-rivet .. job done..cup of tea and a shag!

Because I have the full chequer kit, I have chequered sills too (not sure what their function is but hey), they only have a hole each end to attach through, and they are not countersunk. Sorry for dragging out all the stupid questions but is it better to rivet these, but silicone them the same as the wings?

Remember and get stainless ones along with the washers for under the wing and nuts.
When ah did me sill covers, ah just drilled a line of holes and rivetted them on after usin' plenty sealant;)
 
Sorry for the late reply buster, was gonna ask this before, do you mean have washers between the chequer and the body and just before the nut? Can't wait to get it all fitted, I know its an easy job but drilling holes in your landy is not cool!!!

No wurries mate;)
Ye stick the CP on the wing, stick the screw/bolt/thingy through the CP and wing (when ye've drilled it) and then stick the washer on then the nut;)

Hey Buster - can you re-link the phots?

I am going to be putting CP on the wings and bonnet of my 110 soon and any reference materiel is appreciated.....

I fitted CP to the bonnet of my Defender for the same reason, needed a stable platform to stand on to access the roof rack. I fitted mammouth CP 3mm thick and comes with counter sunk and drilled holes, good quality but not the cheapest, I cleaned the bonnet with good quality wax then smeared a thick coat of grease under the cp before fitting, i fitted it by using bolts, this allows me to remove it once in a while, clean underneath and re-grease, it sounds like a pain i know but my bonnet is as good underneath as it was the day the cp went on, I can see the logic in using sealant but remember if you do to get a good quality one and not a B&Q special, sealant will break down when exposed to extremes of heat and cold as it will be under your cp this will then allow all sorts of crap to get trapped underneath which will start to destroy your alloy. All the best.
