Morning all.

I just got a wraparound bullbar off eBay for a tenner - lucky me!

Any tips on fitting it? It appears I need to cut a couple of holes in the bumper for the lugs to go through - does anyone have any ready made measurments for me?

After cutting the holes, I assume the lugs on the bar just slot into the chassis rails or similar and get bolted through, but how do ya get access to the bolts behind the bumper? Do I need to move the bumper forward or somthing? It all looks a bit tight for my big hands!

Cheers,
Jim

Doh sorry - Its a Disco 2 TD5.
There's no slots in the bumber at the moment, so I assume I'll have to cut some.

I suppose what I really need to know is the size of the holes. Is it necessary to make them big enough to do the bolts up through them, or just big enough to slide the bar lugs into?

Perhaps someone with a wrap-around bar could take a picture of their bumper with the bar going through for me.
The bar I have also has some holes front to back in the cross-member above the lugs - do these mount to the rover as well somehow?
Any pics/notes/advice received with thanks :)
Cheers

Perhaps you could supply a photo of the bar you've got!

Don't know about the d2, but on the d1 you have to remove the plastic bit that the number plate fits onto (or at least i needed to) I'd already removed to lower valance so no (further) cutting was necessary...

Cheers :)

Where I think I may have a problem is that it appears there are brackets that join the bar to the crush cans (read this in the post you sent me the link for) - I didn't get any brackets with my bar so I may need to get something made?

Ive added some photos. The first is the bar itself, and the second shows the attachment points. There are some holes in the back of the main crossmember which look like they should be used too.

Looks the same as fitted to RRC's and the early 200 discos (no chrush cans then) so no wonder it's not a direct fit to your Td5. For the RRC there was an additional plate that fitted each side to the front chassis mountings then the bull bar was bolted and correctley adjusted to them to them.

Anyway I thought fitting metal BB's is a no-no now, there are regulations somewhere about it.

Its not a OEM RRC one, but looks very similar

Its definately for a series 2 disco, and fits perfectly (or would do if the bumber had the mounting holes in it).
I took a punt today and spoke to LR. I asked them if they had the fitting kit for the wrap-around bull bar and guess what? Ordered and will be in in 2 days. £7.

So you cannot fit a bar, but you can order the fitting kit...

Whats an RRC? Range Rover Classic?

Discool - sounds like the plates you describe are what I'm going to need.. The only way I can see it working is to remove the bumper, fix the plates on, refit the bumper with holes cut out to allow the plates to stick through, then bolt the bar onto the plates. Is this how you remember it?

Thats right Range Rover Classic. I have a RRC accessory catalogue and it shows that style of B/Bar and I can't see a metal one in the disco 2 catalogue have look it in Home - downloads. www.discovery2.co.uk A bar / Nudge Bar

I know that metal b/bars were fazed out when air bags were introduced on disco's it was reported the some airbags did not deploy in a crash as a result of the vehicle being fitted with a bull bar.

I'm supprised that more info has not been posted for you.

Well I finally got back from my travels, and got the bar fitted to the Disco.
In the end, I got a bloke to weld some different mounting bracket on the bottom of the bar for me. Fitted it yesterday (after a bit of grinding) and it fits pretty well I reckon!
I'll post a pic when it stops raining (blooming sunroofs).

Thanks for everyones advice.

Now, where can I get a Landy switch for my new fog lights from? :)

well I hope youre wrong :) The bloke definately sold it to me as being for a Disco 2.

A quite common error with some people who have Disco parts for sale, especially on ebay, is their confusion to what a Disco 2 is. It has become apparent to me that a large number of ebay sellers think that because the Disco 200 is a D1, then the Disco 300 must be a D2.
Perhaps this was the case with your seller?
