Well the rangie has been in for the first service since my ownership today & all is not well.
Firstly, as is sods law when booked in for a service, yesterday it started to vibrate followed by a 'chirping' sound from the front end......turns out to be the Propshaft UJ.
Also needs new rad - would explain the slight loss of coolant & smell when hot. Only minor leak but i guess these things can develop into bigger problems = engine overheat. Paranoid about poss overheating so worth while keeping the cooling system tip top.
Breakpipes corroded - To be replaced.

All in all with service going to cost about £750

Also, the mechanic - Warren @ WGB Autos (Sheffield) tells me the engine is a recon from land rover (there is a gap in the service history so no record of this). Not sure whether this is good or bad news? I was hoping with it being an 02 model it would have a better (later) engine block but now it seems it could be any year. Anybody know if it's possible to find information on this from the land rover. Also would they have fitted top hat liners in a recon? Has anyone else had any bad experiences with recon engines...........oh paranoia is kicking in again :-(

Hi,

He just said it was stamped as a land rover reconditioned (its a 4.6 v8). If i knew which dealer had fitted it i could enquire but this is missing from the service history. It's going back on thursday to have the rad, brakepipes & prop uj fitted so will ask a few more questions. Just wondered if this would be on a central land rover database maybe????

It will be, if the engine has a serial number.. which I don't know if they do. The workshop should know. If not, someone else on here will!

Good point. i'll check whether there's a serial number on thursday. If i get this i'll give the local dealer a call & see if they can help. Need to get an EKA code also (just in case i ever need it).
