Picked up this lovely thing today, in a hideous gold colour

The list of faults currently stands at:

dead speedo
no VCU/prop
rear wipe/wash is dead
central locking is dead
interior light can't be manually switched on
hole in the radiator
driver side of rear bench won't release from upright
rear window... erm yeah

It was advertised with a faulty rear window. Turns out the whole regulator mech's been removed, and replaced with two blocks of wood! Que a bit of gaffa tape to stop the rain :)

Quite a bit to do before the fun begins tbh

add to the faults:

gearshift as sloppy as porridge (I thought my R45 was bad, lol)

clutch is everything or nothing, about 1" from the floor

Lighter sockets don't work

IRD output shaft seems in relatively good condition when giving it a wiggle, and no odd noises when driving.. so may be lucky (doubtful though) Going to source a new radiator, with radweld to keep it going for now. Window regulator is being sourced, and central locking wiring is going to be traced to find what's causing the issues.
Already got a spare gear selector shaft in reasonable nick, so that can be swapped.

Tbh, it's lots of niggles, but they're all small ones... I've driven worse

well I didn't want my tools to get wet on the drive home

Spent all day fixing a stupid VAG car of a friends - the amount of odd sized fittings used is just... frustrating

I have also brought another fl1 in gold, ( i now have 3! Why why why?) the colour is growing on me, it also had central locking fault but was just the drivers door lock, rear tailgate was also held up with wood, must be a rover mod! Now I just have the 3 amigos to sort out lol at least my vcu etc was all good and the head gasket done last year, might be all done in the next few weeks lol

nothing like a challenge and at least by the time you've finished u will know them i side out, lol

here , had a thought , what about building a hippo limo ,

oh no I shouldn't have said that should i ;););)

can hear ur brain ticking over already

have u got a decent ramp and an under cover area as I think that the worst when u have to work in the cold and damp

new fault.. between picking it up, and going out to it in the work carpark today (drove approx 80 miles, and less than 24 hours) someone's rammed the damned thing :(

The radiator hasn't seemed too happy being driven that far either, lol

are u going to break them to make one good one and then sell what's left

none of them are autos are they plse ?

hope u don't mind me asking

well, this is my first, and only.. so assuming that was aimed at deangermouse

Just did a little check, with regards the speedo. No 3 amigos, as the PO must have taken the ruddy bulbs out, as they don't come on with the ignition, and all the fuses are still in place...

yaaaaaay

That's common, had it on mine. If you're lucky there may just be some tape over the LEDs, but more likely a shaved ape has levered them off. They are surface mount LEDs, but you can solder regular 12v leds in there place if you are careful. PITA but it is possible.

We call them tratterers on ere. ;)

Last time I saw a rad like that it was cos the last owner had poured in "magic potion" to cure a head gasket fault, it blocked all the water ports and caused overheating. Do you need another front bumper?

At least its an L Series so the bloody thing will definitely try to keep going even if the rest of it is falling appart :)

Mind you, your words most horribleous about the colour deserve years of pain and anguish. Gold should be coverted and protected.

the condition of the bodywork was never a consideration for me tbh - more the sheer cheek someone's had by smacking it, then scarpering!

At least now I've got an excuse for a set of bullbars eh?

And dammit... maybe I'll be lucky, and it's either tape over the LEDs, or maybe even cut wires to the dash.

As for the tailgate glass - just sourced a whole door to swap over. Which gives me the perfect excuse to repaint it
EDIT: sorry GrumpyGel

speedo fixed - didn't know there were THREE ABS fuses

Still no ABS light coming on however... so dash still needs to come out
