First Hippo, with a buttload of faults

It was indeed the rear wipers - shortly after I wrote that I learnt of the CCU, and how to recalibrate the rear window. Not even owned it a week and I've learnt about a lot of the common failures... as mine has them

Best way to learn IMO :)

Sigh. yes.
No one sells a old hippo that is running well, do they?

It was actually a typo. It was meant to to be a casual welcome to what Land rover knew was a pile of crap. At the press launch, the PR guy greated it with the, now famous, phrase " Hi poo".
Unfortunately this was overheard an misinterpreted as "Hippo". The rest is an unfortunate mistake compounded as history. :D
bollox :p

Threw myself under the Hippo, with the intention of swapping the gearchange setup to get rid of the sloppyness:

(photobucket vid - click to watch)

But it turns out the whole rod setup is actually fine, and it's where the rollpin fits into the gearbox itself. The pin is solid in the rod, but sloppy as buggery in the gearbox :(

Going to see how hard the material is in the gearbox rod, to try and drill it out, to take a nut+bolt. Got a few spare PG1 boxes to play with

I also thought the clutch release arm would be partially seized in the gearbox, due to how awkward it is to get the damned thing to release. Nope - there's a buttload of air in the thing. Yay..

On the good side - plenty of space for the supercharger

well it was held in with about 3 extra cable ties for some unknown reason... these weren't put back in, as they were totally unnecessary. And the hydraulic joints were held together with split pins.

Someone's been playing it seems.....

yeah....you get a feel for what has and hasn't been done to your 'pre tortured, abused and neglected car'

Dan, is that a 30mm Aden gun shell you are using for a gear knob?.

no idea tbh - it kinda "turned up" in a drawer in my desk when I was about 13... nobody knows how it got there.

Drilled+tapped a hole in the bottom of it about 7 years ago, fitted it to about 4 cars now :)

Laff!, looks like a 30mm Aden cannon shell as mentioned. Hell of a weapon, 24v firing initiated. It's an aircraft weapon. Just the thing for those silver hatchbacks on the way to the garden center..lol!

Just thought you might want to know. :)

not something u see every day, lol

wonder what the border control people would say if they saw that , seeing that security has changed considerably over the years

do u ever get the mot guys asking u about it , being pointy :):)

good for keeping ur paperwork on

would be a great thing to set up a pre recorded voice inside the cab if anyone decided to try and break in the hippo

saying ,u have 2 seconds to vacate this car before it self detonates , so do u feel lucky punk , then the countdown music

I've over thought this haven't i , lol

would play with there minds

when I was pulled over in one of the previous cars - they tried to pull me up on it... at which point I just started slapping the "pointy" bit with my hand, as it's about 10mm wide, and flat

MANY years ago I found a 'bullet' in my dads tool chest. I put it in a vice and hacksawed the base off....a live .22 round.

Laff!, could he been interesting :)

Its ok Dan, the thing will be totally inert/safe, as its just a big bullet really. All the propellant was in the brass case it fitted into.

That one looks as though it was originally a DP round (Drill Purpose). Its never been fired as you can see by the copper "Bore Ring" being unmarked/no rifling, and has no explosive insert.

Maybe i should start a sticky on "How to fit large caliber automatic weapons to your Hippo" thread?...lol!
