I also had a freelander as my first car when i was 17.
I also had an XDI, l series, was a great first motor and as you have allready found out, it was alot cheaper to insure than the normal 1.1 litre corsa !

madness !!!

anyhow, i wouldnt recommend getting insured on a parents policy as usually this way you wont be able to clock up any no claims in your name, so when you come to actully getting your own insurance in your own name it will be damm expensive as to the insurance companys you are inexperienced with 0 years no claims under your belt.

your better off getting it in your own name from the start, it may cost more but you need to start clocking up no claims at some time.

Ive had two freelanders in the last 2 years and now im onto my Range Rover in which the insurance is alot cheaper as iv now got 2 years no claims under my belt, im still only a 19 year old insured on my own range rover ! LOL

good luck, there great cars - better than boy racer focus's or corsa's ! lol

You legend! A range rover after 2 years insurance on a freelander.

With that policy on the co-op I can build up my no claims which is the great part about it, I will have a look around for the smartbox options in my name and see what works out cheapest though.

Maybe theres another option.

Out of interest how much did it cost you first year? and how much is it now on your range rover.

haha thanks bud ! :p

the insurance conpanys have also cought on with youngsters getting insured in their parents name and it usually works out more expensive anyway.

first year on my freelander, on my own policy cost me £2,200- on a corsa at this time would cost in excess of £3000 ! i couldnt believe it ! lol

but insurance has gone up loads since then !

insurance on my range is still just over £3000 !

still, its costing my 18 year old girlfriend £2800 on her fiesta !!!!:eek::eek:

i dont think im doing too bad :D

Yeah I looked into it and it was about 5k if I did it all myself with certain companies, I will take your advice and try to build up my no claims or be forever stuck.

Looking forward to get a freelander though as its perfect for what I want and I think they look pretty good

Have you tried sites like confused.com? They will sample lots of companies and you may find limited mileage low age policies.

I had a look, I will have another look and mess with the milage, on my first year I probably won't even do 3000 miles.

yep that price sounds right for this day and age !

stupid money for insurance now ! and they wonder why people drive around with no insurance !

there great cars, although the XDI is rather slowish, but there ok once they have been synergy'd !

quite economical also :D

dont forget to post us pics of your freebie when you get it !

PS dont get a 1.8 petrol ! LOL

Yep, I will post pics up don't worry!

Not bothered about it being slowish I wont be doing over 70.

I will take my time!
