i think iremember seeing a pic of that fender in a very different position rather than on its wheels;):D

Excellent job D110, I changed mine from this:

in 8 days. In my garage, ace out, with zero clue whatsoever.
Used a lo-pressure/high output poor man's compressor painting system.
The paint was not thinned near enough, came out in chunks, ended with matt-black sharkskin horror show.
A light sand and a few coats of clear laquer, it now has a very coarse matt texture with a gloss finish. Actually looks damn fine, for a home job.
Cleans easily with a pressure washer, polishes up really well with Q 20 or WD 40 spray.

@DFNDR WP: Very Very nice looking finish!! is that last picture the finished result, because if thats how it looks with a gloss over, i might do that too! also, i was toying with the idea of leaving the roof white, think ill definitely do it now, looks very nice on yours! Are the threadplate parts gloss black yeah??

Yep, end result. Thanks for the compliment.
The roof was left white for the heat factor, it doesn't get too hot inside.
Checker plate is from Mammouth 4x4, it's powdercoated, I assume satin finish, deffo not gloss.
This spray job was actually a monumental cock-up, even though the end result is nice, I don't think I'll ever be able to replicate it if I have to.

Dont think i need to worry about the heat factor here in ireland :scratching_chin::rolleyes: but i do fancy leaving it white now.
Ill have to mess around with some scrap metal and see how a satin finish looks in comparison to a 'gloss over matte' finish looks.
And dont worry, pictures will follow :)

well.... quit flapping yer lips and get spraying...... we is all waiting.;):D:D:D

Just tried spraying the front grille and headlight surrounds, i think i may have sanded them a bit much because the paint seems to have reacted and looks like dried out snake skin (only thing i can compare it to) :D so bit the bullet and ordered new ones along with a full set of lights including wipac crystal headlights and some brake shoes and pads seeing as my local motor factors are useless and have none in stock for defenders?!! next weekend will be fun :)

Got the rest of the front end done today :) pretty happy with it, but i filled a dent on the o/s wing and it didnt come out particularly well, learning curve is a bit steep with that it would seem, so ill sand it down and try again. managed to get the front wings and grille area done with one can too!!

Mate thats lookin mint!

i was gunna have someone spray mine for me but now i think ill have a crack at it my self :)

well done mate :)

Certainly looks good.
Just a tip
check what paints you use as some will start to chalk over time. Ask anyone who has sprayed their wheel archers and headlight surrounds. It wont be as much of a problem if it garaged though

Thanks lads :) pretty happy with the finish as well. @rappy: how would i know which paint will cause that issue and which wont? to be honest though, for the price of a rattle can of paint i might just deal with it and touch it up in the future if it becomes noticeable :D

I am not sure it might be enamel. I know i have had the problem in the past after tidying up wiper blades etc. Your right though for the price of a few spray cans you can change the colour of the vehicle once a year:D

That looks like a great finish from a can. How many coats are you getting on them panels? I'll get round to doing mine the same but for the price of 4 cans, i get a lt of paint and more coverage( hopefully).
As we have the same climate, cold and damp, i found warming up the panels with a hot air gun drives the damp out and dries the paint quicker. The dangers spraying over here in a shed are the paint just hangs on the panel and one coat too much results in big runs:mad: Of course if you have a blower, all the better.Looking good though.

Re paints, and you probably know this, if you sand down to metal, you have to etch primer the patch then you can use ordinary grey primer over the top until your ready to spray. If you are unsure of the paint on the panel, you can spray a sealer coat prior to priming then stick to the paint recomended for the primer and dont mix.
