Fire.

Took my Land rover ser2a for test last wed and got phone call to say it was ready to collect on fri. Went sat morning and the garage was all shut o with police tape and coppers in attendance. They wouldn't tell me what had happened except that there had bee a fire and to ring today. I have just doe this and been told that my vehicle has been destroyed in the fire. I am gutted and just hope that the garage was insured for this sort of thing. It is a small independent place and I have had nothing but good service there. Have also been told that a body has been found in a static caravan parked in the yard. Am going there this afternoon to have a look but until then I don't know what my course of action should be. Would it be best to get a solicitor on the job?

sad times, even worse for the family of the deceased, maybe see what the out come is when you have spoken to the owner first, then make ya decision.

How terrible. Hopefully they're insured, if you have an insurance policy on it you should tell your insurer as it's their business to know too. It may be you have to claim through that channel if you can't with the garage. Try and gather together information and picture evidence of it's condition as a 2a could be worth between 2k - 20k depending on condition of course.

The garage isn't insured so I will have to go through my insurance (Adrian Flux) and let them battle it out, but whatever the outcome it will surely result in my premium bouncing upwards. Don't know anything about the bloke in the caravan but the owner of the garage thinks he may have been smoking in bed and fallen asleep or maybe left the gas ring on. There was a £50,000 motorhome parked right next to my Landy and that too is burnt completely down to the chassis just like mine. Nothing is saveable on either of the vehicles. Apart from the vehicle itself. I had a lot of other stuff in there such as sleeping bags, c.b. radio, radio cd player, tools, 2 jacks etc. etc. I will ring Adrian Flux tomorrow to try sort everything out.

If it was a registered DOT Test station it should have had 3rd party insurance. Let your insurance company earn its money and sort it for you. And don't be fobbed off with the first offer they give you - it's always crap. Hold out for as much as you can. It's unfortunate that someone has died - especially so close to Christmas - but don't let emotion leave you out of pocket.
