Picked up my new (to me ;) ) defender today, a 200tdi 110 csw so pretty chuffed at the mo. :D

After going round it i have quite a few jobs to do before it can go for mot.

the questions

the bulkhead is shot - I got some bulkhead repair panels thrown in the deal but are they worth it or should I just replace it? I can get one at a decent price if required.

the bulkhead/body outrigger needs replacing. can this be done while everything is still in place? i have been told i need to remove the bulkhead to do it, if so that would help answer my first question.

the gearbox is out and i was thinking about changing the clutch while putting everything back together but which clutch should i be looking at? had a look on fleabay and they range from about £30 to £250. i tried a search on here but couldnt find the answer.

the sills are pretty rotten (at least i think thats what they are, floor panels behind the door). anyone know where i can get a set from? looked on ebay but things like this can usually be found elsewhere.

other than that im still buzzing and any help appreciated

if your going to do the clutch make sure you get a good quality one and not a ****part, also dont forget the release bearing and clutch fork. Oh and good luck and welcome the the joys that is landrover ownership.

will do robin :)

going back tomorrow to start prepping it and hopefully going to take a couple of days holiday to get stuck in later in the week. main problem for me is the bulkhead, dont want to start stripping the dash etc if im only going to need to weld a couple of panels and an outrigger on.

cheers ad, have been in landrover ownership for years (p38 and disco to name a couple) but this is my first PROPER landy ;) :D

looking on ebay, choices seem to be britpart hd, AP or borg & beck for under £100 inc bearing but dont know which to go for

hwo bad is the rot then the corner panels only masks the problem for so long

the rot to me looks pretty bad, its holed both sides at the top and about half way up the drivers side too iirc. The drivers footwell looks ok but im guessing the passenger side is shot as there is a piece of chequer plate in there at the mo.

i know panels dont cost a lot but since the 110 is off the road i would rather do it properly so i wont have to do it again for its next mot

was thinking that, got a britpart coupling for my 300tdi prop and it lasted 3 weeks  but some folk say the hd stuff isnt too bad

if the AP kit is ok then i would be happy to go for that as that includes bearing and fork for about £90 posted

well as everybody say's treat ****part like the plauge by it and all your bits will shrivle up and drop of its the ****parts are the work of the devel:frusty:

Will go with the AP kit and get it ordered tonight but heres some pics of it

and the bulkhead

got the wings off today and its no better underneath (passenger footwell is practically not there and drivers has corroded where it meets the foor plate)

Made a list of things I need but before I go on ebay I thought I would ask on here :)

drivers side bulkhead outrigger

front shock turrets

also there is a part i cant name but need for both sides :(. I thought it was the sill but after looking again these have been removed to fit tree sliders but they look like a piece of channel that hold the rubbers to seal against the doors.

think the roof rack will end up on fleabay too

might be easier to replace the whole bulkhead

think thats going to be the plan robin i think the repair panels are just going to end up in the for sales

Re the clutch, i got this..

LAND ROVER DEFENDER 200/300 TDI CLUTCH KIT WITH FORK! on eBay (end time 15-Oct-10 13:26:54 BST)

Re the rust...i have no comment after the state of my chassis.

Good luck with it though!

been looking at similar and going to make a few calls tomorrow. the chassis is pretty good, a small hole behind the front bumper, needs a new rear crossmember and bulkhead outrigger but otherwise pretty strong :)

have started spending today

new clutch kit (AP) with fork
new outrigger (not britpart, bearmach i think)
service kit (not britpart, possibly coopers tbh didnt ask)

£140 delivered next day so dont think it was too bad. Paddocks would do the same clutch but everything else britpart for around £130 economy or £135 express so I figured the extra fiver was worth it :)

Fitted a Britpart HD clutch kit 18 months ago after a Valeo went with less than 10,000 miles on it - ****part is OK to date - touch wood.

For a company to have got such a rep and still trade is quite amazing.

considered th HD clutch kit as it was a little cheaper but after talking to some suppliers (one of whom is britpart through and through) i was advised away as I do a lot of town driving and the HD is apparently a bit heavier on the left leg but a good off road clutch

the plan is to get most of the work done now so im not worrying about it for a couple of years.

not a bad find there paul :) mine was advertised for £75 including the spigot bearing + p&p but after ordering everything from one place and adding it all up i got postage free and a little discount too ;)
