1. Camping - No hotels near enough, being 4 miles away would hardly have been the same. Yes you can get a taxi but I go for venues that have everything on site

2. That would be telling :hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi: but it was the reason a lot stayed away

1) Am happy for you to come up with a venue that has everything on site and that would accommodate the numbers we need for the price we could afford in a location that was suitable- 42 venues said no or didn't reply or were too expensive .

2) More fool you lot for letting it stop you - we who turned up had a great time :D

I love Rachel's philosophy " I think it's what you bring with you to the party that makes it a good event."

Not that you would understand him! God int i broad!?! Even I was struggling. Funny watching everyone else's faces when he was talking.

Nod and wave guys, nod and wave lol

Oh but I will, and did, what little we shouted at each other!

Whilst I come from Doncaster, I used to live in Eastwood, which is near (roughly) where Bushwwacker lives .. I also used to do a lot of business with companies in Pinxton and surrounding areas!

well hopefully i will be there for the next party as things are on the up for me at the minute.will still need some help but not as much.:):):)

Shout up if you need help, if I can help, I will. ;)

Not much good for feedback, Sue.

Oops ... I remembered now ..

Suffice to say to anyone who cares that I'll leave it as personal reasons and won't say anything.

Well we wanted to attend ... left April all free ... other half booked hollibobs in May ... and you set the dates so we couldn't be there ... buggerrit :( :p

It looked brill from the photies ...

on the question of peeps other halves who don't do landy stuff :p, their loss ...
you could have craft type stuff, is it Mrs Grimmer who does the super artwork stuff ?

Whatever your hobbies are,(not Landy), bring some stuff to swap, barter, trade, show how to do ...

Even teach basic auto-electrics, how to fault find and such like ...

We are a talented bunch, whatever you do, someone else wont be able to ...

We could have a circus school thingy for the kids too :D

I really like the idea of a whole variety of stuff, would've loved to do some simple woodcraft stuff :)

Didn't finish banging in marquee pegs until Sat afternoon though

we definately need a bigger pool of volunteers to man the tea/coffee/cake/sweets, cold drink tables , check ticket confirmation /give out wristbands and man the bbq . Know that Kirsty never breathed the whole weekend. A simple enough rota should help for next time.

Simple stickers with a marker would have sorted out the name tag issue cheaply and simply - just didn't cross our mind in the lead up to it

I would just like to say though as one of the "organisers".... the point is we're not - organisers that is, we're members who just wanted this to happen and so asked around and made some plans. There was no vote, no committe, no clique . Anyone who wants to be involved can be ... in fact the more the merrier. The stuff needs to be co-ordinated and strategic and go through Accy & Roy but other than that it's an event for ALL LZ members and all offers of help to make it an even better event than it already was would be gratefully taken up I'm sure .

I guess for a psych nurse with 5 kids , a self employed builder type man ( sorry BB- how do you describe yourself ?) - a social misfit ( Fanatic ) , a ginger bearded man away on tour in Europe and two owners away in the USA and in France it was bloody good that we managed more than three of us in a pub for the night :D

i think for bringing the rest of the family then having events timetabled before people actually buy tickets would be a good idea.

this depends if you are wanting to have a large event or not. it's way overkill for less than a 100 or so people.

i'd do it a bit like a conference.

have a website with all the info on it, location, timetables, do a call for events so people can submit ideas they'd like.

we add a few, then ala kickstarter, as more people buy tickets we can increase the events as funding permits.

stick on sponsorship (like you did), but see what the sponsors would want in the form of advertising in return. ie.
  • couple free tickets
  • logo on event site
  • company name on event tshirt
  • flier handout
  • banner on marquees
  • logo in the multiple forum messages

we'd need a promotion strategy.

forum wide messages every now and again promoting the event, register for updates, collating a database and start doing cross promotions, all that jazz.

small charity events?

There is a travel lodge right on the roundabout at Lutterworth (have stayed there a few times) accommodation is basic, bed/bathroom only, but you can fit a few people in each room and if you book early it is dirt cheap.
Those who don't do camping could be dropped off early evening with a shopping list and picked up in the late morning:behindsofa:

I prefer to be described as a self enslaved, sandal wearing, leftie tree hugger :D

A lot of folk really helped out in the background with donations, finances, ideas, keeping the bash threads positive, putting up with me panicing (mosty Pikey, Mints and the lovely Jess)

A certain post on ere is makin my head swell ...Please someone tell me I ain't the reason some peeps stayed away. ... Although cuttin off nose to spite face. ... bein ignored ain'taproblem same as i would ignore.. ..sad fookers

Completely get the not camping bit - again, that's why there was a hotel, less than 5 mins drive away - in fact it probably would have taken you longer to drive off the campsite with it's speed limit and one way system than it would have taken to get to the hotel.

If numbers allow for next year we can arrange a minibus taxi pick up and a drop off or I'm sure that those of us who weren't drinking could willingly have given any stopping in the hotel a lift.

Im not sure that being 4 miles off site is too out of the loop to feel part of it - in fact if a number of you stayed in the hotel - discounts applied ( it was already dirt cheap anyway ) and also you could all meet up for breakfast etc

110.i can understand sue's point about not having accommodation on site, that is the point of the meet,to meet up have a great time then stagger of to your room etc,not having to travel miles to get to it.that puts those bods in a place away from the main group etc.

Problem is accommodation on site tends to be on small camp sites with a B&B or a pub attached - certainly wouldn't be big enough for numbers we were anticipating and then those who haven't got a room on site are spread out miles and miles apart . That's why we chose a travel lodge that had 100 rooms available with a holiday inn 8 miles away with 300 rooms.

All of the small camp sites we contacted didn't want or accept rallies and had no facilities for them - it was only the fact that Stanford Hall already run a VW rally that made them willing - the campsite alone couldn't have accommodated us .

In an ideal world we would find a camp site with , camping, caravan and hotel facility on site that could sleep 100 and that also had a rally field that could accept maybe 200 landies , with water and electric hook ups oh and that was both in the North of the country and was also simultaniously in the South too and that might also have some of it's location in Scotland - I'm all ears if anyone knows the telephone number of that site

I can see your point 110, but look at it a different way.

Stay at hotel for night, perhaps have breakfast with others but not necessarily at the same time. Now you have a choice, leave Landy in hotel car park and get a taxi or accept you cant have a drink.

Arrive at field with or without Landy. Those camping have home for weekend set up, chairs fires whatever. So you hang around perhaps go into beer tent have some food. Cant get changed or anything unless you go back to hotel, then taxi back in evening.

Or you take Landy and everyone else is having a drink, you cant.

So while it might be possible, its not exactly appealing

Camp site near pub/hotel and walking distance to a small town would appeal to far more people. And something for non Landy folk to do during the day

Just my thoughts and I know its not easy to find a venue

sam,you asked for feedback, but because not everyone has the same opinion as you, there is no need for these smiley's is there.:rolleyes:if you dont want the answers, then dont ask the questions.

And given the amount of gear at this do, why do you even need a campsite.

What about the fields the caravan clubs hire for rallys, no facilities in them but I assume they are not expensive. Hire in the toilets and showers, even generators.

Have seen loads of these events quite near to towns/hotels etc

Basically turn it around, find a suitable spot and then look for a field rather than the other way round
